Coping With Financial Stress

Financial stress can go from inflicting damage on your wallet to ruining your health if you’re not careful. It is even one of the most common stressor that has the capability of triggering long-term diseases wrecking havoc to the budget further  As with any problem, the first step is to know the enemy so you can fight it. What is causing your financial stress? The obvious answer may be money but in what context and how can you cope with the stress being caused thereof. Here are a few practical ways to get over this financial stress

Your job is the most valuable asset, it pays your bills and takes care of your regular expenses. Be sure that your job doesn’t get affected. If feasible pursue a part-time or another working option for added income. There are various websites like www.freenez.com   and www.groweasyincome.com that allow this option of additional income.

Start with creating a budget it is the best tool to get control of the finances it helps you decide when and how you are going to spend your money and will change your financial situation by cutting expenses in different areas each month to get a perfect balance.

Contingency fund Start setting aside some money to cover for unforeseen events or an emergency. Start small and then work up to about six months of your expenses. Surprisingly the stress will start reducing once the savings start building.

Question the not enough feeling of inadequacy you might have. Often comes from childhood deprivation or any other trauma. Work on your mind, know that self-esteem is an internal characteristic, not defined by your external status or social, financial position

Goal setting, having a dream such as clearing major loans in a particular time span.

Find out what needs to be changed, your source of income or your spending habits. Once the cause of the problem is detected, work on solving it. Look for a better paying job, write down your expenses to eliminate sources of unwanted expenses. Start clearing bills slowly but steadily, start with higher interest rate cards

No one minds your money as well as you will. Don’t look to be taken care of by someone else, learn to manage your money on your own, take advice and suggestions refer to finance magazines and websites to be able to manage your finances wisely. You can also take financial courses that coach you through budgeting and other aspects of your personal finances.

Try physical exercise, maybe swimming, dancing, walking, meditation to reduce stress. Regular exercise will. Think and talk positively. Do not get into the wishful thinking mode of having more money and being able to spend it on your dreams. Think different ways of making more money

Plan time to relax and stay in touch with people you care about.  Venting out your emotions with them might also help. Meet friends and family, spend happy time with them to take your mind off the stress.  There are lots of things you can do and places you can go that are free, or cost just a little.

In some cases, earning more money is the solution to financial problems, not to the extent of inflating your lifestyle when you get more of it. This will neither reduce your stress nor bring you more happiness.  So remember that no one is immune from money stress, not even the super wealthy. It is how you manage your money and how it in turn manages you.

The Floating Post Office

The pristine waters of Srinagar’s Dal Lake sparkle in the spring sun, reflecting in between the picturesque ripples the magnificent Himalayan peaks that accessorize the skyline. Amidst the beauty of the houseboats and shikaras, floats a one of a kind POST OFFICE. Yet another attraction for tourists visiting the Dal Lake. This Floating Post Office is another feather in the cap of India which is the most widely distributed postal network and the largest number of post offices in the world.

This post office is claimed to be the only such in the world and is built on an intricately carved houseboat, anchored on the western edge of the Dal Lake.  The heritage post office existed during the British rule. But it was repurposed and renamed by the then Chief Post Master John Samuel. It was inaugurated by then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Minister of State for Communications and IT, Sachin Pilot in 2011. It offers regular postal services as well as saving schemes.

The Floating Post Office additionally houses a Philately Museum showcasing the stamp collection and the fascinating postal history of the state. There is a Souvenir shop selling stamps, postcards, greeting cards and books on Kashmir.

Another distinctive feature of this post office is that the letters here carry a unique design with pictures of captivating landscapes of the Dal lake and other charming sceneries of Srinagar. These pictures are to promote Kashmir tourism wherever the letters travel.  They also have a special stamp of their own that depicts a man rowing a shikara.

The tourists take a boat ride to the post office just to send a postcard back home to their loved ones. The residents, use it for their normal post office work, including banking and saving. Labourers and farmers working nearby and those who run the shikara business all go to this post office to deposit their savings. This is the nearest post office for them.

Apart from the threat of destruction due to natural disasters like floods which are rare, the post office is safely afloat. As a matter of fact, the people working or frequenting the post office also mention that it is a pleasant and airy place where there is no need of the fan throughout the year.

This Post Office,  adds to the resplendence of the lake and is a  befitting tribute to the Dal Lake. So when are you visiting this mail in the pail?

Demonetization Overview

Demonetization means a particular currency, ceases to be legal tender. On the 8th, November 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced in a surprise address to the nation that Rs. 500 and Rs.1000 would no longer be legal tender from midnight of the same night. The decision was taken to curtail the perils of black money and corruption. It caused and resulted in many social, political and economic effects

The Advantages of Demonetization were

  • It was the first move from Cash Economy to Digital Economy thus progressing towards a Cashless Economy. People started using more of debit and credit cards and mobile wallets instead of cash. Digitalization will, in turn, create transparency in transactions and online lending space.
  • It was a huge blow to the parallel economy creating hurdles for black money hoarders, the government has been able to track black money
  • Fake currency was eradicated out of the system for those high-value currencies
  • It placed a temporary brake on terrorist activities
  • Disclosure of income in the form of depositing money in the bank accounts led to major generation of tax revenue
  • The unaccounted money came back into the banking system thus strengthening the banks
  • It brought down the rate of inflation during the months that followed demonetization, as the prices of day-to-day consumer goods came down

Disadvantages

  • The biggest disadvantage was the inconvenience caused to the common man disrupting their day-to-day life. Long ATM queues, inadequate supply of new notes. Cash-based businesses, manufacturers and all sections of business suffered losses. The daily wage earners were badly affected. Rural India faced worse situations due to lack of banks and ATMs in their localities
  • The Economic growth slowed down, the GDP went down
  • Due to substantial cash component in the Realty market transactions, sales were hampered significantly. Though slowly it is reviving
  • The Government had to bear huge costs for destroying the old currency and printing new ones
  • Many black money hoarders had their funds invested in assets like real estate, gold and so on which could not be traced
  • It made a minor dent in corruption

With all the pros and cons of demonetization, what was criticised the most was the implementation. The implementation of any such idea is more critical in a country like India than the policy itself.  The suffering of the common man could have been minimized with better planning.

The demonetization isn’t the only measure to curb black money and corruption. Regulations that target root cause, that is, transactions leading to generation of black money and not the cash output should be made

Simple Money Saving Tips For Students

Penny saved is Penny earned, how often do our parents quote Benjamin Franklin. This quote teaches us life’s important lessons of self-control and discretion so we can save and spend the money well on the right things at the right time.

*Plan your budget and stay focused. Know your recurring expenses and keep some amount aside for the accidental expenses that you might encounter.

*Pay bills on time or even before the due date to avoid late fees and get early bird discounts

*Buy grocery from the supermarket that offers maximum discounts, plan your visit to the supermarket so that you have a list ready to avoid impulsive buying. Negotiate and haggle on purchases that permit it

*Make sure you have no dues on your credit cards, lest you waste your money paying unwanted interests. This will even help you have a better credit score for future loans and purchases

*As far as possible use Public Transport or carpooling or a two-wheeler pooling to save on fuel. Short distances can be walked to or cycled to, thus saving your Gym membership expenses as well.

*Join a local library so you can borrow the books you like to read. Buy used textbooks or reference books, they would be cheaper and often have the important stuff highlighted 😉 and tips written on the corners of the books that turn out to be more helpful than the material in the textbook itself. Photocopying a reference book also can be done.

* Say NO to tempting and expensive brands. Brands are for the future you, not the present you.

*Party at home rather than in extravagant places. Where ever possible, encash on student discounts or bulk discounts, like a food joint or lounge. Also, there are weekdays when these places allow free entry to students, party on those free days.

Dhanteras

Dhanteras

Dhanteras is the beginning of Diwali the biggest festival of Hindus, the festival of lights. On this day Hindus worship Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber. (Lord Kuber is treasurer of money and Gold). It is believed that Goddess Laxmi came out from Kshir Sagar (Milky Ocean) holding a pot of gold and money in her hand on this day. As per Hindu rituals, on Dhanteras people buy some new things of metal like steel utensils, silver coins, gold jewellery, or items made of iron and copper. This festival falls on thirteenth day of Kartika month. On Diwali people wear new cloths and decorate their houses, offices, shops, and industries to welcome Goddess Laxmi. In front of the houses people also make rangoli, and make foot prints signifying the presence of Goddess Laxmi. People light colourful diyas and welcome Goddess Laxmi.
Housewives light diyas after sunset for Lord Yama.

There is story of King Hima’s son, whose death was predicted on the fourth day of his marriage by a snake bite. As the new wedded bride came to know about it, she built a heap of her gold ornaments on the door of the bedroom and kept her husband awake the whole night by talking and singing for him. When Lord Yama in form of snake visited in the palace to bite the prince, he was blinded on seeing dazzling metal. Since Yama missed the set time of death of prince and prince was saved, also leading to the celebration of Dhanteras. Even today some people keep lamps burning through the night on Dhanteras.

In the evening, the family members get together and pray first Lord Ganesha, after that they worship Dhanwantri, for good health and wellbeing of their family. People also pray God, who holds the kalasha full of nectar of immortality, Lord Dhanvantri removes all the fears and diseases. The Lord Dhanvantri is empowered to heal our souls also. Dhanteras is also called Dhanvantari Trayadashi. Dhanvantri is also worshipped on the occasion of Dhanteras, is the God of Ayurveda for betterment of man and help to get rid of the suffering of disease. National Ayurveda Day was first observed on 28t Oct., 2016.

During the Pradosh Kaal which is the time after sunset and remain for about two and half hours, Goddess Lakshmi is worshipped on Dhanteras. A piece of new red cloth should be spread on the raised platform. A handful of grains in the middle of the cloth, a kalash filled with water and mango leaves, water mixed with Ganga jal, a fruit, a flower, a coin and some rice grains are also kept together. The idol of Lord Ganesh and goddess Lakshmi are kept on grains. The important business books are also kept. Also (Diyas) light is lit, and offer prayers for the success, happiness and prosperity.

This year Dhanteras festival will be on 5th November 2018. We wish you all happy and prosperous Dhanteras in advance.

“Trust” is the name of relationship

What does relationship means? Relationship is a “TRUST” and “CARE”.
Relationship does not mean how much time you spent together, but it is how much you trust, how much you love, how much care you have for each other. Relationship means honesty. In any relationship every human being has expectations from each other but good relations last only when we are aware of our expectations, behaviour, actions, words, facial expressions, attitude, attention. At times we feel neglected because of our unreasonable expectations. Every relationship can be made stronger through good communication. Unfortunately, most people don’t learn to communicate effectively as they grow in age. When we are small we learn to speak, but what to speak, when and where to speak it takes life time to learn. In any relation effective communication is necessary.
It would be a great care if you understand other person’s feelings, needs, likes and dislikes clearly. And if you sacrifice your own needs and happiness to satisfy other persons desires, you may end up with fight and disappointment, so convey your feelings too. Understanding grows properly when a person understands himself and other persons emotions, desires, needs and work out mutually. This is a way to make relations strong.
We meet different people and build different type of relations such as family, colleague, teacher, student, children, boss, friend, romantic relations. It is very important to understand that in different relations we have different part to play. And there are different expectations in every relation. Sometimes, these expectations are clearly understood by both the parties and sometimes they just develop as people spend time with each other.
Depth and sincerity in relations are most important factors. We should have few good and solid relations, rather than focusing on too many people, who slip in and out of your life, as and when they want. Relationships are to provide emotional fulfilment that humans need as social animal. People have an innate need to feel loved, connected, and important to someone else. Some people feel this need more strongly, some don’t. Even if you don’t want the emotional benefits of relationships, you can benefit for networking, career opportunities, someone to call when you are in trouble.
A healthy relationship requires two ways traffic. Try to not to waste time in arguing. In relationship try to keep check on happiness of each other. Fulfil your promises. Don’t just say you will get a birthday gift and forget about it. By doing this other person will lose trust in you. If your memory is not good, write it down on personal diary or set a reminder in your cell phone. Try to keep your promises. If you cannot keep your promises, admit your mistake. You have to be responsible for your actions and cannot make anyone else guilty or responsible for your own mistakes. If you notice a mistake, apologize for the same without wasting time. Be realistic and loyal in your relationship.
What makes a relationship strong and healthy, choose the ways and resolve those problems and push though the hard days, instead of just later issues. Working on problems will help you to be positive. Positivity helps in making relations good.
